Given my recent desire to visit Japan and Germany - places that can only be reached from the US through air travel - I though of commuting the idea of me getting on a plane from 'absolutely not under any circumstance' to a 'maybe'. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I flew from the UK to Orlando and back on Virgin in November and all was well. It's safer than any other form of transport.

You can take a cruise to Europe. You can probably find a cruise to Japan to, if you really want to go.

Are you a typically emotional person or are you more of the rational variation? If the latter, look up safety statistics for both aircraft and cars.

It's fucked up, but flying is still the safest way to travel.
If we actively avoided any activity that may put our life in danger we would all be living in a padded cell and never see the sunlight.

people commit suicide by car every day but are you scared to drive on the highway? That guy driving a bus in the next lane over might feel like he wants to drive off a bridge taking you with him. Yeah its a tragedy for all those lost but it can happen anywhere. Not just air travel. Next time you take a train for all you know the engineer might have plans to try and derail it. Living in fear of disaster is no way to live

So I guess you survived the floating 60 ball? Did it pop? Did it fall? Did it scream?

I'm 56 years old. More than half my life is over. You know what that means? Something is going to kill me sooner rather than later. Any advice? :)
